Reason and ignorance,
the opposites of each other,
influence the great bulk of mankind.
...Reason obeys itself;
and ignorance submits
to whatever is dictated to it.

CASE STUDIES:

This is a true story that extends far beyond the judicial branch of the State of Nevada and shines a spotlight on Nevada that is publicly known for and brags about corruption in public offices and in the courts. The missing property and unaccounted for sums in this tale are alleged to be in the $ multimillions. The documents that were filed in the case charge in part that: the court appointed Trustees secretly sold Trust property to themselves and others at pennies on the dollar; the Trustees and their attorneys then devised and implemented a scheme to pit the beneficiaries against each other; the court appointed attorneys continuously violated the law and the Court continuously refused to enforce the law and standards of conduct. This story is intertwined with federal agencies, international corporations, and dealings that defy the best of Hollywood's imagination and involve a fortune of which few knew the true extent. Judicial Misconduct
The June 8, 9, & 10, 2006 issues of the Los Angeles Times ran an excellent series of articles by Michael J. Goodman and William C. Rempel. These articles are fine examples of investigative reporting and expose the pervasive problems within the Nevada Judiciary and provide a frame of reference for reviewing the Lear Family Trust section of this site.
Here are the introductions to each of the articles of the series. The link will take you to the L.A. Times homepage. (To find the articles, do a search on the home page with the name of each article as it appears within the quotation marks below.)
June 8, 2006 - "In Las Vegas, They're Playing with a Stacked Judicial Deck"
"Some judges routinely rule in cases involving friends, former clients and business associates -- and in favor of lawyers who fill their campaign coffers."
June 8, 2006 - "A Judge Who Isn't Playing by Fast and Loose Rules"
"Judge John S. McGroarty did it differently. In the last Nevada election in which all district judgeships in Las Vegas were on the ballot, 13 incumbents ran unopposed. Unlike others, McGroarty returned his unspent campaign contributions..."
June 9, 2006 - "For a Vegas Judge and His Friends, One Good Turn Led to Another"
"James Mahan got his jobs on the state and federal benches through the connections of old pal George Swarts. Things turned out well for Swarts too."
June 10, 2006 - "How Some Nevada Judges Stay Under the Radar"
"One Nevada judge was nearly indicted on blackmail charges. Another ruled repeatedly for a casino corporation in which he held more than 10,000 shares. Still another overruled state authorities and decided in favor of a gambling boss who was notorious as a mob frontman, and whose casino did the judge a $2,800 favor."

"Crime is contagious.
If the Government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law;
it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.
To declare that, in the administration of the criminal law,
the end justifies the means...would bring terrible retribution. Against that pernicious doctrine this Court should resolutely set its face."
United States Supreme Court Justice Loius Brandeis
Olmstead v. United States
(1928)
